NIPES Awards 2025 Screening and Selection Process

The National Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists (NIPES) is committed to maintaining a rigorous, transparent, and merit-based process for selecting recipients of the NIPES Awards. The following screening and selection process ensures that all nominees are evaluated fairly and consistently, aligning with international best practices and standards.

Stages of the Screening and Selection Process

Stage 1: Initial Screening

  • Eligibility Verification: The NIPES Secretariat conducts an initial review of all submitted nominations to ensure compliance with the eligibility criteria for each award category. Incomplete submissions or those that do not meet the basic requirements are disqualified, and nominators are notified.
  • Document Verification: Nominees must submit the following:
    • Completed nomination form.
    • Curriculum Vitae (CV) or organizational profile.
    • Supporting evidence, such as publications, patents, or project reports.
    • At least two recommendation letters from credible referees.
    The Secretariat verifies the authenticity and completeness of all submitted documents.

Stage 2: Preliminary Evaluation

  • Initial Scoring: Eligible nominations are distributed to the Evaluation Panel for scoring based on predefined criteria, including:
    • Original Contributions to the Field
    • Recognition in the Field
    • Impact of Contributions
    • Published Work and Research
    • Professional Leadership and Service
  • Shortlisting: Nominations found credible are shortlisted for further evaluation.

Stage 3: Validation and Verification

  • Authenticity Check: The NIPES Secretariat verifies claims made in the nomination documents, including contacting referees and validating supporting evidence.
  • Request for Additional Evidence: Shortlisted nominees may be asked to provide supplementary evidence or clarifications to support their nomination.

Stage 4: Final Evaluation

  • Deliberations by the Evaluation Panel: The Evaluation Panel reviews the validated nominations and conducts a comprehensive assessment based on all available evidence. Scores are updated based on detailed discussions and deliberations.
  • Final Recommendations: The Evaluation Panel submits its recommendations for winners to the Awards Committee for approval.

Stage 5: Approval by the Awards Committee

  • Final Decision: The Awards Committee reviews the panel’s recommendations to ensure alignment with NIPES’ mission and values.

Stage 6: Announcement of Winners

  • Notification: Winners are notified via official correspondence. Their names are publicly announced on the NIPES website and other communication platforms.
  • Award Ceremony: Winners are formally recognized and celebrated during the NIPES Awards Ceremony.

Stage 7: Confidentiality and Feedback

  • Confidentiality: All deliberations of the Evaluation Panel and Awards Committee are kept confidential to maintain the integrity of the process.
  • Feedback: Upon request, constructive feedback is provided to unsuccessful nominees to help them improve future applications.

Panelist Qualifications and Selection

Qualifications

  • Expertise: Panelists must have demonstrated expertise in engineering, science, or a related discipline, supported by advanced degrees, professional certifications, or significant contributions to their field.
  • Professional Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in academia, industry, or government, with a strong track record of achievements.
  • Impartiality: Panelists must disclose any conflicts of interest and recuse themselves from evaluating nominations where such conflicts exist.
  • Diversity: The panel is selected to ensure representation from various disciplines, sectors, and regions.

Selection Process

  • Nomination by the Awards Committee: The Awards Committee under the chairmanship of the President of NIPES identifies potential panelists based on their qualifications and professional standing.
  • Approval and Conflict of Interest Checks: The nominated panelists are reviewed and approved by the Awards Committee, with mandatory conflict-of-interest declarations.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluation: Panelists score nominations and participate in discussions to ensure a comprehensive assessment.
  • Confidentiality: Panelists must uphold the confidentiality of all deliberations and decisions.
